Two young researchers from FINS visited Institute of Animal Science of LVA in Baisogala, and here are their impressions:

According to the “Work package 3“ of “Feed to Food“ project (FP7-REGPOT-2007-3) we were in four‑week scientific visit and training at Institute of Animal Science of LVA in Baisogala (from May 2nd until May 30th 2010). During our visit we became familiar with the organization of the institute, the methods and equipment used by the institute for testing feed. Our training included working on HPLC and fiber analyzer. We brought 34 different samples of feedstuffs and complete feeds in which we determined amino acids, NDF, ADF and dry matter.

We also visited feed producer Kauno Grudai, part of KG Group, which is one of the largest group of agricultural product processing companies in Lithuania.

During our stay, we worked closely with the technical staff of the institute from which we had great help in the experimental analysis of samples and when working on equipment. Technical assistance, advice and guidance during the work provided us a scientific staff of the Institute, namely Gintautas Švirmickas, PhD and Saulius Bliznikas, PhD.
